Introduction...
---------------
C-Light is a light-cycling game written in AMOS, that has taken me almost
a year to finish writing. I started it way back in February 93, two months
after getting AMOS for Xmas. I've only just finished it (Jan 94!), because
I had a few problems with the direction routines. I know it works on an A500
and an A1200, because I've recently upgraded to an A1200, but I don't know
about other machines. Just try it, it should work.
N.B: Please note that this game is PAL only, and will not work on a NTSC TV.
This is because I wanted to make the playfield as large as possible.
C-Light is FREEWARE. You may redistribute it as long as you include this
.doc file, the program and its icon.
Instructions...
---------------
Simple really. Not wishing to put you down... but you are a green dot.
You have to travel around each "maze" and get to the exit. As you move,
you leave a "trail" behind you. You cannot retrace over this trail, so do
try to avoid it. There are only nine levels in this version, due to the
overall file size, but future versions will have more.
The title screen has the Game Speed (more later...), Last Game Score,
and High Score on it. I know the picture isn't very good, but I can't draw
very well on computer!
Bonus Levels...
---------------
Yes, there are some! After completing the third and sixth levels, you
are whisked away to a bonus level. Basically, you have to follow the tunnel
through until you hit the walls, or the exit door. The default game speed
for the bonus levels is Fast and you cannot change this.
Your score is calculated differently in the bonus levels. This time,
you get more! Your score increases by one point for each dot you move. So
it is a good idea to get to a bonus level if you want to beat a high score.
The Game...
-----------
You start at the block marked START, and end at the block marked EXIT.
Nothing complicated there I hear you cry. To exit from a level, you MUST
hit the Green Door in the Exit block. If you hit the block, you will lose
a life. You start with five lives and lose a life every time you hit
something other than the exit.
There are three things that you shouldn't hit:
1 - A maze block: These are here to guide you around the screen,
so don't hit any of them!
2 - The outer wall: This is the same as a block and comes just as
sharp!
3 - Finally... you can't hit your own line! Why you would want to
hit your own line is entirely up to you, but it is not advisable.
Your score is calculated on how far you travel during the level, and
is only displayed at the end of a level, or upon dying. It is calculated
by SCORE=Distance Travelled/100. You won't get a high score unless you
finish a level, because at the end of each level, you are given a 100
point bonus!
Controls...
-----------
You control your dot by pushing the joystick in the direction you wish
to travel. You cannot travel diagonally, only Up, Down, Left and Right. It
is a good idea to just push once on the joystick in the direction you want
to travel, because it means you will be able to change direction quicker.
You can change the Game Speed, if you so desire, to either Slow or Fast,
by simply pushing Left for Slow, or Right for Fast, on the joystick in the
game port. To start the game, you just have to press Fire on that joystick.
You can also change the Game Speed after you die, or upon completing a level,
so you can suit the speed to the particular level you are on.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disclaimer...
-------------
I accept no responsibility for joystick wear and tear, or nervous
breakdowns if you hit the side of the EXIT block, instead of the Green
Door! IT'S YOUR FAULT!
Version 1.1...
--------------
More levels, obstacles, fun, sounds, music, a cheat-mode maybe,
moving blocks, animations, a better title screen (now I've got
DPaint IV AGA!!), faster screen updating, etc.. (oooh, can't wait!!)
Anyway, its been nice of you to read me. Cheers...
Yours... Chris Haynes (22-8-1994)
